Rick “Phoenix” Manzo is a melodic hard rock singer, songwriter, and guitarist from Mercedes in South Texas. Over the years, he has performed with several bands, including Orions Legacy, Drain of Life, Faultered State, Fates Armada, and his most recognized project, A Day of Ashes (2007–2014). In 2009, A Day of Ashes released its debut album, Turmoil, earning recognition throughout the regional rock and metal scene.
Currently, Rick Phoenix is working on his upcoming 2026 solo album, I, Beyond Scars, while also developing plans for touring in late 2026 through 2027. Beyond performing, Rick has contributed as a writer for RG Vision Magazine, Beyond Arts Magazine, and the Mid-Valley Town Crier in South Texas.
Rick is also the creator and host of the Rockland Revolution Podcast, a show dedicated to highlighting local music scenes, national touring acts, guitar reviews, and underground rock culture. The podcast is scheduled to return in Fall 2026.
In 2005, he founded Break the Silence Productions, a company focused on promoting music events and charitable causes. Among its notable projects was Rock Relief 2021, a benefit concert organized to support his uncle during his battle with Stage 4 cancer. Through various events, the organization has also raised funds for the American Red Cross to assist people in times of need.
Rick secured his most recent endorsement deal with Acoustik Attak Picks. Reflecting on the partnership, he says, “These guitar picks are definitely a game changer.”
