Living in the frozen north of Saskatoon Saskatchewan Canada Ben Counsell has been playing guitar for over 20 years. Starting with, blues and rock, then moving into the emo/post-rock style, he’s played everything but country. He has since found his niche in much heavier music and creates modern aggressive instrumental metal. Although he still dips into his roots now and again, as well as leaning into the ambient guitar world occasionally.
Favoring low-tuned extended-range guitars, often with his signature Auroratone pickups Ben loves mixing the low-tuned chugs with taping leads and melodic riffs- all while not taking himself too seriously so he can have fun while creating.
Since discovering Attak Picks Ben has been hooked. Favoring the stealth 2 picks- he uses them for everything from crushing 8 string riffs and solos, to ambient swells and open chords at church on a Sunday morning.
Ben’s music is produced, mixed, and mastered by himself in his little home studio. Most of his riffs make their way to Instagram, but full tracks can be found on Spotify, Apple Music, etc- and he has recently gotten into the world of creating music for video games, and dabbles in the content creation world.
While not crafting crushing riff reels or working on full tracks Ben is a husband and a father of two, a lifter of heavy objects and an associate Pastor at his church in Saskatoon.
