Why drop tuning eats your definition
You tune down, the riff gets heavier, and somewhere between the pick and the amp it turns to soup. The low string flaps, the palm-mute loses its edge, and a tight gallop starts sounding like one long buzz. That's not your amp and it's usually not your hands. It's the pick.
Here's the mechanism. When you drop the tuning, the low strings go slacker and fatter. A slack, heavy string takes more energy to set moving cleanly, and it wants to move in wider, messier swings.
